This year for International Week our theme was immigration is beautiful! We studied contemporary artists Favianna Rodriguez and Tasha Lewis. Both of these artists explore butterflies as a metaphor for migration and our global culture. K-2 students created magnetized butterflies that are installed on the ceiling of our school entrance and in the art room. Thanks to Mr. Edmonds for his help with this installation! The 3-5 students created magnetized butterflies for the installation and they worked on large group butterflies which are also installed in our school lobby. The older students learned about graffiti and print making as techniques to create interesting backgrounds for their huge butterflies.
